How an interactive neighborhood map helps hotel guests plan a stay
Location, location, location. A hotel or short-term rental address tells guests where they will stay; a curated neighborhood map shows what they can reach from it.
The ideaThe hotel is the starting point. Every selected place should answer a guest question and support the character of the stay.
Make the neighborhood part of the welcome
Guests often choose a hotel with the surrounding area in mind. A branded hotel neighborhood map can group your own recommendations for restaurants, cafés, galleries, parks, transit, and practical needs. Each place card can explain why the hotel recommends it, show a photograph where permitted, and link to the official website, booking page, or directions.
The map can live on a “Explore nearby” page before booking and remain useful after check-in. A front-desk email or QR code can point to the same guide, but the map should still work as a normal page link for guests who prefer it.
Show useful distance, carefully
A guest may care more about the time to a place than its straight-line distance. The Charleston coffee & lunch map starts at 163 Queen Street and labels selected places with estimated minutes to walk or drive. For a custom project, MapEdition can discuss the route-data source and update process before adding travel estimates.
One possible display rule is to show walking time for routes estimated at 15 minutes or less, then show driving time beyond that threshold. A 16-minute walk might appear as a 4-minute drive if the routing data supports that estimate. The mode must be labeled, so a shorter number is never mistaken for a shorter walk. Times vary with traffic, accessibility, route choice, and conditions; they should be treated as estimates, not promises.
Write the local story
A list of nearby businesses is easy to copy. Your selection is what makes the guide distinctive: a breakfast stop guests actually enjoy, a walk worth taking, or an attraction that fits the hotel’s point of view. The map makes those recommendations easy to explore without sending guests into an undifferentiated search result.
Start with the hotel, then show “Coffee before checkout,” “Dinner without a car,” and “A rainy afternoon.” Each pin opens the hotel’s short recommendation and a current official link.
