PLACES AND PROPERTIES
How an interactive map helps buyers and renters explore a new development
Location, location, location. A development website can make that familiar promise concrete by showing the property, its amenities, and what residents can reach from it.
The ideaA development map can connect on-site features and nearby places, but each location and travel estimate needs a reliable source and a clear update owner.
Make the full setting legible
A residential development may have multiple buildings, phases, entrances, parking areas, and shared amenities. A map can help people understand the site before they visit. A separate neighborhood layer can show schools, supermarkets, fitness centers, parks, transit, and other selected services around it.
Buyers and renters should be able to move between a place on the map and a short description of why it matters. The leasing or sales team can connect a place card to a current page about an amenity, availability, a floor plan, or an official outside source.
Plan distance information as a project feature
For a custom map, the development team can define a consistent distance rule. One option is to show walking time through 15 minutes, then switch to a labeled driving estimate for farther destinations. Mileage can appear alongside the travel time when it helps people compare places. A destination estimated at 16 minutes on foot might therefore display “4-minute drive, 1.2 miles,” subject to the route data.
That display rule requires routing data, a chosen origin within the development, testing, and a maintenance plan. Travel times are estimates and can change. Where a property has more than one entrance, the starting point must be clear. School information should link to official enrollment sources rather than imply eligibility from distance alone.
Help one team maintain one clear story
A development team, real estate agent, or broker can use the map to connect the site plan and neighborhood story. As phases open, amenities change, or surrounding businesses come and go, the map and related copy should be updated together. An interactive interface may make the page engaging, but the accuracy of its content is what earns trust.
Let visitors switch between on-site amenities and nearby essentials. A selected place shows its description, official link, and labeled travel estimate. Link back to the relevant leasing or sales page when the visitor is ready to ask about a unit.
